Mukund,

Yeah, markets get flooded faster than ever before. It's just so hard to sustain any differentiation with things moving so fast these days. Seems like bestengagingcommunities is in the sweet spot, though.

Good luck with it.

Will
I am on the flip side, too much competition - which indicates I have not chosen the niche / focus target market well enough for a startup - trying to be too broad I guess.
This is my 3rd startup (first two got sold), but I realize now the pace of change is dramatic now compared to the first two.

We all learn dont we?

Thanks, Doug. Mixed reviews on the site. Some like that it's much easier to read. Others think that it's too plain and ordinary. As you imply, though, 99% of the readers of the blog pick up the feed, not the site. Since I can't leave anything alone - ever - I'll continue to futz with it.

Great story on recognizing competition. I especially like the thought that companies addressing emerging markets often get lumped in with large existing markets because they're just easier to understand that way.

Yes! Even if you are the "niche play" that's being ignored in the market and there are few (or dare say "zero") direct competitors, you're always in competition with ancillary products/services...or the dreaded "do nothing at all" which is most certainly a choice in many new markets. For example, Dispatching Software with integrated GPS often gets put up against GPS pure plays. There's a world of difference but the market doesn't automatically know that. Thus, the real competition is EVERY GPS solution provider. If someone didn't say that in their presentation (like maybe me once before), I wouldn't fund it (they didn't)...and hopefully I'd learn a little something (I think I have).

Nice new site by the way. Amazing how RSS readers put us back to simply receiving "telegrams" and being happy with it.
