Red Sox Lose Opener. Season’s Over.

The Red Sox lost their opener today 7-1 to the Kansas City Royals.  Curt Schilling, the Sox starting pitcher got shelled, including loading the bases in the first inning then walking in a run.  The Sox used up another 5 pitchers (6 in total) in their losing effort.  Deja vu all over again in Red Sox Nation.  I wouldn’t be allowed to carry my official Red Sox Fan Club card if I didn’t dismiss the season after losing the first game.  After all, there’s only 161 left.

Don’t forget, as an additional contingent for being a card-carrying fan of the Sox, you must blame yourself for this loss.

For example, I had to step out of the room to take a phone call at the bottom of the 10th during game 7 of the ‘03 ALCS. I returned once I heard the roars over Aaron Boone… My lack of attention ended the season, and I have been repenting ever since.

You have to know that changing some mundane detail of your own life would have cause Shilling to pitch a no-hitter on opening day, but you blew it.

Andrew, LOL! Exactly! I’m so glad you’re willing to take the fall for the whole Aaron Boone thing. I thought that was all *my* fault.

If you haven’t seen it, check out my post from last season, “Red Sox Lose - Entirely My Bad” (http://www.2-speed.com/2006/07/red-sox-lose-entirely-my-bad/).
