Sex on the Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History

Sex on the Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History

I keep reading Ben Mezrich books trying to relive “Bringing Down the House.” I totally loved that book. While “Sex on the Moon” is good, it doesn’t reach the level of his first book. That said, I enjoyed the book. I did not know the story – big-thinking NASA intern steals moon rocks from Johnson Space Center to, ahem, give the moon to his girlfriend. Even as Mezrich plays it, this is hardly what really went on. This kid clearly had some issues that only stealing the most rare stuff on the planet could hope to resolve – girlfriend or not.

Mezrich tells the story well by taking obvious liberties with the facts. That’s fine, of course, it’s about entertainment, it’s not a documentary. The characters are interesting and easy to get behind. There are enough real and obvious facts for the book to, occasionally, sound like a news story, but mostly it feels like a novel. It’s difficult not to root for the “bad” guy who is the hero of the story.

It’s a fun and relatively quick read and better than “The Accidental Billionaires.”
