Not as good as his first Gray Man book (http://www.2-speed.com/library/mark-greaney/the-gray-man-a-gray-man-novel/), but still enjoyable overall. The action parts are terrific as in the original, but a third of the book is wasted while he saves a bitchy, whiney, ignorant woman. I spent hours thinking, “just shoot her.” It’s a setup for action later in the book, but it could have been quite a bit shorter so that the Gray Man could get back to his real work. No one, and I mean no one, could be as ignorant as the female character in the book.

This genre – troubled, lonely, ex-CIA agent turned freelance killer, but only killing really bad people – is popular these days. Without the Cold War to rely on for espionage fodder, terrorists, potential terrorists and evil dictators exist aplenty as targets for a wide range of independent assassins and the books about them.

As I said in my review of the first book, I like the Gray Man a little more than John Rain (Barry Eisler) and Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn) and the stories seem a little different.

If you like this genre, the book is very good. Not among the best, but still very enjoyable.
