The Gray Man (A Gray Man Novel)

Wow! Totally excellent book. Fast paced and surprising. The author gets right into the story on page one and fills in the details and history subtley as he goes. Plenty of mystery and suspense with stuff uncovered by the reader along the way. I couldn’t wait to get back to the book to find out what happened next.

The genre is one that I find myself attracted to – loner assassin, usually trained by the CIA or some other covert, government agency; outcast for a reason or two and now proffers his/her skills to the highest bidder with one key exception – they only kill people who need-a-killin’. Yup, just the bad guys.

Is the Gray Man as good as Barry Eisler’s John Rain? Dunno, but he’s different. John Rain is more complex, but the Gray Man is more of a superhero-type. Of course, both get themselves out of totally absurd situations – the Gray Man more than Rain in many cases – but reader eye-rolling soon passes as the story keeps moving.

Highly, highly recommended if you like this sorta thing.
