The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

By Stieg Larsson

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This was the first Stieg Larsson book I’ve read. I was a bit suspicious about it before starting because my wife wanted to read it – we almost never like the same books. I feared it was another chick book. It was anything but. A surprising amount of disturbing mayhem – just to my taste. The story is far from the formulaic popular detective novels that I usually read. While the general genre is definitely a thriller, the characters are more rich and interesting than most; there are multiple sub-stories going on; and there is a super-story as well that I’m not sure that I’ve figured out yet, but may be the whole point that the author is trying to make. I’m sure there is something lost in the translation from the original Swedish. Totally enjoyable, though.
