Memorial Day

By Vince Flynn

Memorial Day

Mitch Rapp is a great protagonist. He’s a Muslim American fighting terrorists who are all Muslims, of course. He has no problems breaking limbs to get the information he wants or shooting people in the head so that others know he means business. Vince Flynn clearly believes that there is only one way to deal with those who attack or plan to attack the US and that’s to use the most lethal force possible as quickly as possible and that’s what this book is all about. More than somewhat preachy at times, I wanted to skip some sections. This has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with the author, it’s just pretty repetitive.

I like Flynn’s writing style and will pick up Mitch Rapp books as long as he writes them. There’s plenty of action and the pace is good. Flynn talks about the huge holes we have in our domestic defense net and makes one think about how easy it would be for terrorists to stage another major attack. I found that interesting and scarily plausible.

Not the best Mitch Rapp book I’ve ever read (American Assassin is), but enjoyable. Flynn doesn’t do his book chronologically, so Rapp’s personal life jumps all over the place. I guess I sorta like that.
